Attendance
Where a child’s attendance is low (below 90%), and we have concerns about the reasons for their absence, we will contact parents/carers to try to improve attendance together.
All parents will receive a termly email giving information about your child's attendance.
We think it’s helpful for parents to be aware of the amount of learning their child has missed, even though we appreciate there may be circumstances, such as specific medical needs, which have made absence unavoidable.
We target children’s attendance because we know it impacts their learning, their friendships, and their life chances. The letters are intended as a way of sharing information with you and not as a judgement.
Members of the Attendance Action Alliance have worked with the Department for Education to develop this short guide which helps parents understand how they can work with their school and local authority to support their children to attend school and get the right support DfE Guide for parents on school attendance
